Metal Ninja Studios is a full-service IP Development company built on a foundation in comic book production. Our flagship service, Concept to Comic™, takes any IP or idea and turns it into a finished comic in six months.
We're looking for a Contract Graphic Designer / Letterer to own the visual production side of that pipeline, from logo design and lettering to print prep and the marketing assets that power our IP Incubation crowdfunding campaigns.
You won't be a letterer who occasionally touches design, or a designer who occasionally touches lettering. You'll be evenly responsible for both, plus the campaign and production design work that bridges them. So, a strong eye for both lettering and design is a requirement.
We're looking for a self-motivated intrapreneur who wants to help build the infrastructure behind a growing comic studio. Someone who takes ownership, asks smart questions, spots problems before they become bottlenecks, and proposes fixes instead of waiting to be told what to do. If you love clean production work, sharp lettering, and helping creators bring their IP to life, this is the place.
We're seeking someone who aligns with:
- Continuous improvement (1 percent better daily)
- Ownership and initiative
- Clear, respectful communication
- Service-focused problem solving
- High standards and accountability
- Creative ambition grounded in structure
Responsibilities
- Letter interior pages across active Concept to Comic™ projects, maintaining consistent style, flow, and readability
- Design comic logos, branding, and trade dress elements for client titles
- Handle print prep and export specs for final deliverables (interiors, covers, digital and backer files)
- Build campaign page graphics, reward tier visuals, and social assets for Kickstarter and other crowdfunding launches
- Support pitch deck design for client and publisher-facing presentations
- Incorporate revision notes from PM, Lead Designer, and Editorial through Dropbox and Slack
- Maintain consistent file organization and naming conventions across project folders
Requirements
- Mandatory: Proven published comic lettering credits, with a portfolio showing lettered pages, comic logos, and design work
- Strong working proficiency in Adobe Suite, mainly Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
- Familiarity with comic production and print prep standards (bleed, trim, resolution, file formats for print and digital)
- Ability to independently manage multiple projects and deadlines without sacrificing quality
- Comfortable taking direction from PM and Lead Designer while also flagging issues proactively
Bonus Skills
- Crowdfunding or campaign page design experience
- Social media graphic design experience
- Familiarity with Dropbox, Slack
- Comics or publishing industry experience beyond lettering
Compensation: Flat rate per project.
If you take pride in clean lettering, sharp design, and helping new IP look as good as it reads, we'd love to see your portfolio.
